MISSION STATEMENT

In the Office of the President, we work to promote and ensure academic equity, accessibility, and affordability. In doing this, we also ensure accountability — for our office, our administration, and the institution as a whole. Our team of staff consists of amazingly driven and passionate people determined to implement long-lasting change for all students on campus, including but not limited to historically marginalized communities, through organized advocacy. We are committed to providing equitable and safe spaces for each student at this institution, aiming to serve students in the most relevant ways, especially in such unprecedented times.

OUR PLATFORMS

Community

This year, the Office of the President’s CommUnity team will be creating an educational series about important topics relevant to our current political environment. Our office believes that true social and transformative progress cannot be achieved without actively informing ourselves and engaging in difficult conversations about equity and justice. We hope this series can help guide your endeavor to make positive impacts on the UCLA community and beyond.

Some topics include:

  • Police Brutality

  • LGBTQ+

  • Criminal Justice

  • Activism

  • Voting

Accountability

During the summer, Accountability worked on researching and compiling a “social pods” memo addressing COVID-19 quarantine guidelines on the UCLA campus and greater Westwood community. They have been consistently working on releasing monthly newsletters detailing the Office’s meetings and progress toward major projects.
During the fall, Accountability plans to release a Bruin Values Survey, which they plan to distribute at the beginning of each quarter to gauge the desires and values of UCLA students. They have also begun “Notes from Naomi”, an initiative meant to expand transparency about Naomi’s meetings with admin, faculty, and other UCLA staff.

Affordability

Throughout the summer break, we developed both an affordable housing resource guide and a student workers guide in collaboration with other USAC offices to provide informative resources in the transition to an online fall quarter. For the school year, we have plans to develop a breakdown of tuition and student fees, work on improving basic needs at UCLA, expand the use of open access textbooks, and form the Financial Aid Taskforce to advocate for the student body and for overall affordability at UCLA!
